Medicare Supplement / Medicgap Policies (Pay Annual Premiums) Medigap policies are supplemental health insurance policies sold by private insurers, designed to fill some of the "gaps" in health coverage provided by Medicare. Although Medicare covers many health care costs, you still have to pay certain coinsurance and deductible amounts, as well as paying for services that Medicare does not cover.
Medicare Advantage (Pay-As-You-Go) Medicare Advantage plans are required to provide the same benefits that are covered under the traditional fee-for-service plan, except hospice care. Medicare pays an Insurance Company a certain amount of money each year to provide benefits to Medicare eligible individuals. If the individual's medical expenses exceed this amount of money, the insurance company is at risk. The insurance company would have to pay for expenses over an above the amount that was provided by Medicare.
Usually the individual pays nothing or a small premium to participate in a Medicare Advantage Plan. However, they would be responsible for paying Co-Pays throughout the year for many of their medical expenses.
